Exhibition Name:

Strange Matter (Condensed Version)

Are you ready for a close encounter with the amazing world of modern materials? Come explore with the Ontario Science Centre's newest traveling exhibition.

High-tech fields like the space program are known for their use of advanced materials, but these materials have also found their way into the stuff of everyday life-from car shock absorbers and eyeglass frames to DVD players and golf clubs. In this exhibition you'll uncover the surprising science behind everyday stuff while getting a glimpse of where the future of materials research might take us.

Some of the unique exhibit experiences include: Ferrofluids, which will allow you to explore the unusual micro-structure of materials, making them useful in all kinds of places. With Amorphous Metal you will meet the future of metals, where their unusual structure makes them incredibly hard. Our Touch Table will encourage hands-on experimentation for children of all ages while Zoom! will move the visitor from the macro to the nano scale using a variety of instruments.

Go ahead, touch it. We dare you!

This exhibition is an educational project presented by the Materials Research Society (MRS), with design and development by the Ontario Science Centre. This exhibition and its national tour are made possible by the National Science Foundation, Dow, Ford Motor Company, Intel® Innovation In Education, Rio Tinto Alcan and The 3M Foundation.

This 1,700 square foot exhibition will feature a variety of multi-station interactive exhibits with a flexible design that will accommodate many display areas. A rental of this exhibition includes Education and Programming Guidebook, as well as the support of an interactive website.
