Exhibition Name:

Bob Dylan: NYC 1961-1964

Description: Part of Capture: EDG Photo Portfolio

Photographs by Ted Russell

Life magazine photographer Ted Russell chronicles Bob Dylan's first arrival in New York City, an unknown folk artist with his first album yet to be released. These photographs continue through 1964 when Dylan was writing many of his most significant songs. Dylan is depicted in his first New York apartment with his girlfriend Suze Rotolo, in his first performance at Gerde's Folk City and in many other candid and intimate photographs. After 50 years lying largely dormant in a file cabinet, the complete photographic collection has been brought to light in the publication Bob Dylan 1961-1964 (Rizzoli 2015).
