Exhibition Name:

Salvador Dali: Visions of Eternity

Description: An undisputed genius of 20th-century art, Dali was always much more than one of Surrealism's leading figures. A virtuoso gifted with dazzling skills and technique, he was a painter, sculptor, writer, printmaker, and set designer. Also a master engraver, he produced equally outstanding work in etching, drypoint, woodcut, and lithography, and superbly illustrated a broad range of texts from different areas. From the time he produced his first work at age six and his last at age 79, the Spanish artist created a universe where dreamlike, eccentric, and symbolic themes intertwine seamlessly. The exhibition's piece de resistance is a series of 100 illustrations of Dante's The Divine Comedy. The amount of work required to produce the prints is staggering - each with as many as 35 colors, totaling approximately 3,000 woodcuts.
