Exhibition Details

Exhibition Name:

We Are the Music Makers!

Description: We are the Music Makers! educates and engages viewers in the cultural history of Southern traditional music. The exhibit includes 30 panels – 28 of which feature photos and stories from Music Maker musicians. In addition to the panels, a supplemental website provides audio and video components to accompany each panel. The multi-media materials highlights questions of how poverty, geography, and age have limited the exposure of these artists, causing the widespread idea that the musical traditions they perform have "died out."

"Music Maker is a fabulous project; real evidence that the music I have always loved is alive and well." - Eric Clapton
"We Are the Music Makers highlights an essential part of our culture, providing us a glimpse into the lives of the amazing, and often little known, musicians of the American South." - B.B. King
"Through the efforts of the Music Maker Relief Foundation, these amazing people and artists have been able to live dignified lives. In many cases, they were rediscovered during their golden years by Tim & Denise Duffy, then given the joy of new recognition by their families, peers and fans world-over!" - Taj Mahal
