Unseen Oceans

Exhibition Name:
Unseen Oceans
Description:

More than 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans, yet surprisingly little of these vast realms has been explored.

Unseen Oceans takes visitors on a journey to encounter our blue planet as never before.

Explore the world’s oceans through the lens of 21st century technology. From the oceans’ sunlit surfaces to their inky depths, a series of media-rich galleries highlights the latest advances in ocean exploration, the researchers and technologies behind them, and the mysteries that remain.

Highlights:

  • Take a virtual dive to encounter marine species and habitats from the ocean’s surface to the seafloor in the immersive submersible theater.
  • Experience the thrill of marine exploration as you navigate the ocean floor with a digital submersible interactive station.
  • Stand side-by-side with true-to-life scale blue whales, giant squid, and manta rays at the Encountering Giants 180° projection screen.
  • Examine marine specimens, to-scale and larger-than-life models, and immersive installations.
  • Peek through the lens of a specialized underwater camera and view the tiny organisms living in a drop of seawater at interactive microscope stations.
